As opposed to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, TikTok immediately \u2018starts\u2019 when you create an account. On \u2018older\u2019 social media platforms you first need connections or followers (or following) before the magic happens. TikTok automatically serves you content without having to perform many actions. Instantly consumable. It also lets a TikTok user add sound effects to a TikTok video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This \u2018instant action\u2019 was one of the pillars of success for TikTok.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TikTok Music<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Bytedance also launched TikTok Music, a music streaming platform that offers new ways to listen to music. TikTok has license deals in place with record labels and has created a commercial music library. Kwettr delivers music to TikTok Music, alongside Apple Music and YouTube music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Some figures:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>2 billion<\/strong>&nbsp;TikTok app downloads (April 2020)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>41% of all users are between&nbsp;<strong>16 and 24<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Q1 2020:&nbsp;<strong>315 million app downloads<\/strong>, most app downloads ever in any quarter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chinese counterpart is called Douyin and operates only in China<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>800 million monthly active users<\/strong>&nbsp;according to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oberlo.com\/blog\/tiktok-statistics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oberlo<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1 billion new posts every&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/influencermarketinghub.com\/tiktok-stats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">day<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bytedance is worth more than Spotify, Tencent Music, Vivendi and SiriusXM combined (Bloomberg, 2020)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Bytedance is also the owner of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.toutiao.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Toutiao<\/a>&nbsp;and music streaming service&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.resso.app\/in\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Resso<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TikTok Lite<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Countries that do not have solid internet connections or very expensive mobile data get the Lite app. Countries like Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Russia and Brazil have seen explosive user growth thanks to Lite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"blockquote\"><strong>In just 3 years time, TikTok reached the same amount of monthly active users in those countries as Instagram did in 6 years.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Competitors of TikTok<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The biggest competitors are Triller, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. TikTok is about authenticity, self-expression and creativity. As TikTok says: \u201cTikTok is a place where everyone can embrace their flaws and escape from being their perfect self\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is an important difference compared to Instagram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whereas content on Instagram is mostly focused on perfection, beauty and painting the perfect picture, on TikTok users show their vulnerable side. Imperfection, videos gone wrong, self-criticism and authentic videos define TikTok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Popular content<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Memes<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The meme culture is enormous. Accounts posting memes daily have millions of followers and huge levels of interactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lip-syncing<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>TikTok started as Musical.ly, an app for lip-syncing and to date, this still plays a big role in TikTok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dance<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>A very well-known content type: dances and dance challenges. Companies like&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.danceon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Danceon<\/a>&nbsp;tap into that success in a clever way. Create your own choreography, share it and win the crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TikTok allows users to import video content into the app, but they strongly advise creating content on TikTok itself. Native content can be made, using importing sounds, controlling speed, timer and filter. The TikTok database has music and licensing deals with major record companies and independents in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Artists such as Lil Nas X, Doja Cat and Taylor Swift are very popular on TikTok. This helps the algorithm to show the best-suited content. Make sure the 15 seconds have a good structure (opening, middle, end) to it. Fans head over to f.e. Spotify and other streaming platforms to listen to the full track. Dances made on Tones and I \u2013 Dance Monkey and of course Lil Nas X \u2013 Old Town Road went viral on TikTok.
